The Attorney General of Switzerland

The Attorney General of Switzerland oversees all operational, organizational, and personnel aspects of the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) within the framework of the legal provisions.

The Directorate

The Directorate is the Attorney General of Switzerland's advisory body. It meets regularly to discuss operational, organizational, technical, and staff-related matters, to deliberate on important cases, and to prepare strategic decisions.

Organisation

The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) is an autonomous and institutionally independent federal authority. It acts as the federal criminal prosecution authority pursuant to Art. 7 of the Federal Act on the Organisation of Criminal Justice Authorities (StBOG; SR 173.71).

Federal jurisdiction

The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) fulfills its legal mandate as the federal prosecution authority. It is responsible for prosecuting offenses that fall under federal jurisdiction and plays a central role in combating crime both within Switzerland and internationally.

Strategy

The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG), a self-governing and institutionally independent federal authority, is responsible for prosecuting cases under federal jurisdiction (Art. 23 and 24 CrimPC); it is also responsible for executing the requests for mutual assistance and enforcing the judgments that fall within its remit. We focus our human and financial resources on working to achieve this mission.

Professional ethics

On 1 July 2017 the code of conduct for the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) came into effect, a directive from the Attorney General that applies to all OAG employees.
